Abstract

The researchers have developed a liquid soap suitable for hand and body use that contains an antimicrobial property. Polyalthia longifolia (Sonn) Thwaites (Mast tree) leaf extracts were tested for Antimicrobial Activity Test using Disc Agar Diffusion Method Kirby–Bauer Test and tested for its antibacterial property against; E.coli, S. aureus and P.aeruginosa. The results of the leaf extracts as an antimicrobial agent inhibits most of its growth from P.aeruginosa with 17.86mm complete inhibition respectively. Moreover, others such as S. aureus with 16.48mm confirmed complete inhibition and E.coli with 10mm also shows the total mean zone of inhibition. Also, phytochemical analysis confirmed that flavonoids were an abundant constituent of the leaves which aids as an anti-oxidant in the body, anti-cancer and an anti-allergic. Sterols found abundant which helps in slowing down the aging process. Lastly, the leaves showed the moderate amount of tannins which has an astringent compound that aids in lessening oiliness of the skin, severe perspiration, and treating wounds. The development of liquid soap can give benefit to the nursing research, nursing education and the community.
