CONTRIBUTING FACTORS OF STUDENTS’ DECISION IN SELECTING A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY

This study intended to identify factors that contribute of students’ decision in selecting a private university. Interview and literature review were done to develop 34 items in the questionnaire. A pilot study was then made for reliability and validity purpose of the items. A sample of 200 respondents who participated in this study were asked using self-constructed questionnaire consisted 25 remaining items. Factor analysis approach was used. Five factors were identified, which were supporting facilities, university quality and image, accreditation and recommendation, academic and non-academic supports, and sporting facilities. Using chi- square analysis, there was no significant relationship found between those factors and students’ economic status, origin of place, high school alma mater, and religion.
