Abstract

This study aimed to find the level of students’ attitude and motivation in learning English as well as the correlation between students’ attitude and their motivation in learning English. This study was a quantitative study, which were descriptive and correlational. The researcher adapted questionnaires from Thang, Ting, and Jaafar (2011) and Choosri and Intharaksa (2011) as the instrument. This study was conducted to the 118 grade ten X3 – X6 students of SMA A enrolled in the second semester of 2016/2017 academic year. The results showed that the level of students’ attitude in learning English was moderate (M = 2.93) and the students’ motivation in learning English was high (M = 4.01). Lastly, this study found that there was no significant correlation between students’ attitude and motivation in learning English (p = 0.105). Thus, students’ attitude in learning English does not have any relationship with their motivation in learning English.
