Abstract

There  are several  factors that can affect  the achievement of the students  at school. The present study attempted to examine home environment and its relationship with students’ English academic achievement. This study  used the descriptive and correlational research designs. The research was carried out to 70 students of first and second year high school students of SMA Advent Ratahan. Hudson (1982) Index of Family Relations (IFR) was used to provide information on home environment, and English academic achievement was ascertained with the help of students’ grade report. The home environment of the students was found to be high with a mean score of 3.87. While for the students’ English academic achievement, the result showed that the students had an average score with a mean score of 70.70 (SD =0.79). The results further showed that there was no significant relationship between home environment and English academic achievement, with a p value of .247. The obtained results indicate that the students’ average English academic achievement does not have any relationship with the high home environment.
