Comparative Analysis of Social Engineering Attack Based on SMS and Phone

Abstract

 The information becomes a very precious thing which is owned by every person, organization or company. Various effort was made to maintain the security of information held. Many people still lacking regard to danger or a threat to the security of the data or information in it. This research aims to find out the methods that used by the executant of social engineering to attack their targets, to compare the use of Short Message Service and phone media in social engineering attacks and to know how to prevent social engineering attacks. This research attempted to collect literature on social engineering, distributing questionnaires, and analyzing the results of the questionnaire. There were 277 respondents collected at Adventist University of Indonesia (UNAI). The analysis and processing the data shows that social engineering attack performed by executant are more likely to use SMS (252 events) than the telephone (207 events). There are (27,77%) of respondents who ever been victims of social engineering attacks by Short Message Service and (14,97%) of respondents who ever been victims of social engineering attacks by the phone.
