Abstract

This  study is  to determine  whether the family  cohesion affect students’  academic achievement. The respondent  is composed of 97 level III nursing students  through convenient sampling method, where the majority is female (72%) than male (28%) with the mean age of 21 years old.  This study utilized a descriptive- correlational type of research. Findings of this study showed that the students’ family cohesion was strong, their level of academic achievement was high but when it comes to the relationship between family cohesion and students’ academic achievement, the significant value showed p= .461.  This indicates that there was no relationship between the two. However, such a strong cohesive family exerts an important experience towards an individual’s development in later social interaction and interpersonal skills. Coming from that background with those skills, the students who are in their adulthood age are mature enough to work with their peers.  Most of the time they study with their group of friends and this might be the contribution in their academic achievement.
